HITACHI TO INVEST $400M TO MAKE SH RISCs IN TEXAS
(September 11th 1995) Heading a flood of chip capacity announcements,
Hitachi Ltd plans to invest a total of $400m this year and next to
construct a 0.5-micron CMOS process line at its Hitachi Semiconductor
(America) Inc, Irving, Texas-based semiconductor manufacturing facility.

The new line, which will also have 0.35-micron process capability, will
produce Hitachi's 32-bit SuperH RISC engine. Start-up is planned for
April 1997, with full production of 2m chips a month reached in 1998,
when plant employment will increase by 200.
