Intel 80286 is a next generation of 8086 16-bit processor. The 80286 microprocessor included new instructions that were introduced by 80188/80186 processors, and added new features:
New 16-bit protected mode allowed the processor to access 16 MB of memory. To setup the protected mode new instructions and registers were added to the 80286.
Execution time of many instructions was reduced.
The 80286 microprocessor was produced at speeds ranging from 4 MHz (Very rare) to 25 MHz (second sources).
The i286 was made by no less then 5 second sources: AMD IBM Siemens Fujitsu Harris
The CG Designation was replaced by 'A' Later on though IBM continued to use it.
