IBM ANNOUNCES NEW POWERPC EMBEDDED CONTROLLERS
April 17, 1995
IBM Corporation today announced the newest member of its PowerPC
Embedded Controller* Series - the PowerPC 403GB, a 32-bit, 28-MHz
device designed for printers, digital scanners, set top boxes, and
X terminals for host-based systems and client/server applications.
The company also released availability and pricing for its previously
announced 33-MHz PowerPC 403GA embedded controller. These products
expand the breadth of IBM's PowerPC embedded controller offerings for
cost-sensitive, high-performance embedded applications.
"We are working closely with our customers to determine which
peripherals should be integrated to meet their system cost targets at
a given performance level," said Ron Tessitore, manager of PowerPC
embedded controller development for IBM Microelectronics* Division.
"By responding to our customers' feedback with products like the
PowerPC 403GB, we can significantly contribute to lowering their
overall system costs."
To support designers, IBM also offers the PowerPC Embedded Tools*
Program. Established to support third-party vendors developing
products based on the PowerPC 400 series, the program provides
technical hardware and software support and early access to technical
information. Currently, more than 30 independent software vendors are
participating in the program. It complements IBM's suite of
development tools, including the RISCWatch* debug and development
tool, OS Open* real-time operating system, an IBM compiler and the
400 series evaluation kit.
The PowerPC Embedded Controller 403GB is priced at $45 in quantities of
1,000 and is available in sample quantities now. The PowerPC 33-MHz
403GA is available now in production and is priced at $53 in quantities
of 1,000. IBM Microelectronics is also currently in volume production
with the 25-MHz version of the PowerPC 403GA, which was announced last
September. It is priced at $49 in quantities of 1,000.
